An LCD video projector is a very common option for home theater applications. The large projected image created captures the feel of a movie house in a way that can't be matched with a Plasma Screen or Rear-Projection TV.
An LCD (liquid crystal display) projector typically projects an image by sending light from a halogen lamp through three LCD panels -- one each for the red, green, and blue components of the video signal. As light passes through the panels, individual pixels can be opened to allow light to pass or closed to block the light. The combination of open and closed pixels can produce a wide range of colors and shades in the projected image.
Advances in Halogen lamps and high resolution LCD panels have made it possible to produce very crisp bright images from very small projectors.
Because the images they produce can be projected onto nearly any surface and at a wide range of sizes, LCD video projectors are ideal for home theater applications.
